In this is love:
not that we have loved God, but that he loved us… – 1 John 4.10

Give us and forgive us.

These simple words from yesterday’s Gospel reading (Matthew 6) unveil Jesus’ core teaching on prayer, as well as Jesus’ essential message of grace. The influences we need to live (and live well) are: bread and forgiveness.

In this context, bread is a symbol for all that feeds us – physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. And Forgiveness is a symbol for all that brings peace – in our thoughts, emotions and especially in our relationships.

Today’s reading reveals to us that divine Love is the source of the giveness and the forgiveness. And invites us to partake in its flow more consciously than before, and in so doing, also become a giver and a forgiver.
