The Contemplative Companion for Wednesday, May 24, 2017

Jesus said to his disciples:
I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming. – John 16.12-13

Spiritual development is ahead of us – in time and in our time-body. Like a chrysalis and butterfly awaits the caterpillar’s development in time. Perfectly, at just the right time, the future becomes the now – and the next thing unfolds. Such divine order and human possibility is a source of encouragement, positive hope and anticipatory joy. And this draws us forward. Lifts us up out of fear. And keeps us moving deeper toward our intended Omega Life.

While we may not believe, understand or be able to bear the future of our Omega Life at this moment, when the future arrives, we might be surprised what is possible in that moment as it becomes our now. Truth be told, in a beautiful quantum way, the future is already and always here with us.

Notice also in the guidance of Jesus, that the Spirit is related to both Truth and that which is coming – that is to say, the future. One of the primary roles of the Spirit – whatever IT is – is helping us connect and understand at ever deeper and more complete the levels the nature of Reality as Relational, the spectrum of Truth as the human levels of consciousness, and an unshakable sense of peace and calm in the face of the coming future.

Perhaps today you are afraid of the future – of what might be, or of what might come. Why not take a few moments right now and breath. Sink into your body. Sink into the moment and ask for help from the Spirit of Truth – to help you see and understand something more true than your worry, something more Essential than your passing personality, and to help you feel a deep confidence that no matter what may come, nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ, which is the union of your humanity and It’s divinity by the loving connection of the Spirit.
